MuCoDi Product Update #3

MuCoDi for Museums: DAM, CMS, Metadata & Digital Experiences

By MuCoDi·October 13, 2026

Museums are working with more digital touchpoints than ever before. Collection data, metadata, images, websites, exhibitions and in-gallery experiences all need to work together.

With MuCoDi, the goal is simple: make your collection data easier to manage, connect and reuse across the digital experiences your museum creates.

In this update, we're highlighting some of the areas we're continuing to develop across the MuCoDi platform, from metadata and integrations to DAM, CMS and custom digital experiences.

01. More control over fields and metadata

Structure your collection data your way

Every museum has its own way of describing, organising and enriching its collections.

MuCoDi gives museum teams more control over the fields and metadata that sit behind their digital experiences. Field mappings, vocabularies and translations help create a structured foundation that can be reused across different projects and channels.

Instead of creating separate data structures for every digital experience, you can keep your collection the source of truth and build different experiences on top of it.

02. Connect the systems you already use

Your collection systems. Connected.

Museums don't start from scratch. They already have collection management systems, archives, media libraries and other sources containing years of valuable information.

MuCoDi is designed to work with the systems museums already use, bringing collection data into one digital infrastructure that can then power websites, online collections, microsites and other experiences.

With field mapping and integration capabilities, museums can decide how information from different sources should be structured and used.

03. Manage your digital assets alongside your collection

Your collection is more than metadata

Images, audio, video and documents are an essential part of a museum's digital collection.

MuCoDi's Digital Asset Management (DAM) provides a central place to organise and find digital assets, with folders, search and the ability to reuse assets across projects.

This means assets can be managed as part of the wider digital infrastructure instead of becoming isolated files sitting in separate systems.

04. Build digital experiences with the CMS

From collection data to published experiences

Once your collection data is structured and connected, the next step is turning it into experiences your visitors can actually use.

MuCoDi's visual CMS and page builder allow museum teams to create pages and digital experiences using reusable components, while keeping the collection data underneath connected to the same platform.

Curators can manage content. Designers can shape the experience. Developers can extend it when a project requires something custom.

05. Build your own frontend

Your museum. Your design. Your digital experience.

Not every museum wants to use the same frontend.

MuCoDi provides the infrastructure, APIs and components that allow your own development team or agency to build a frontend around your museum's identity and requirements.

Developers can extend existing components or create custom ones, while the underlying collection infrastructure remains connected to MuCoDi.

This means you can have a completely custom visitor experience without rebuilding the collection infrastructure from scratch.

06. From the collection database to the gallery

Bring digital information into the physical museum

The digital collection doesn't have to stop at the website.

With touchscreens and QR codes, museums can connect visitors in the gallery directly to deeper information about objects, artists, exhibitions and stories.

The same underlying collection data can be reused across different visitor experiences, helping museums create more connected journeys between the physical and digital museum.

One collection. Many experiences.

The bigger idea behind these developments is not another set of collection of disconnected features.

It's about having one connected digital infrastructure that allows museums to reuse the work they have already done.

Your collection can power:

·        Online collections

·        Museum websites

·        Exhibition microsites

·        Touchscreens

·        QR experiences

·        Custom digital products

Instead of building each experience as a separate system, museums can build them all on MuCoDi as a shared foundation.

What's next?

We're continuing to develop MuCoDi around a simple principle:

Make museum collections easier to manage, connect and experience.

We'll keep sharing new features, integrations, improvements and examples of how museums are using MuCoDi to bring their collections to more people.
